What the heck? It's been five days since my last post? And it's fifteen minutes until July? What happened?
Yeah, okay, things got busy, and then I had to go to the doctor for my physical and almost melted out there in the 105 degree heat, and then I got sick (the irony of getting sick the day after a doctor's appointment is not lost on me!) and then we got company, and then my granddaughter went back to Oklahoma and then I spent today writing and now--what the heck? Five days?
It probably didn't fly past quite that quickly, (of course it didn't!) but it sure felt like it.
I had a house full of grandchildren for a little while, and that was good, but it would have been so much better if I hadn't been sick. Love those kids.
Why do they grow up so fast? Seriously, what is the rush?

Here are the last of the #WriteAwayJune posts. I am really going to miss doing this every day. I think it helped me to get to know my character Emma more.
#WriteAwayJune Day 26 - How does your character react to losing?
Emma is probably not the world's most gracious loser when it comes to things like board games or cards. She's very competitive; she plays to win. If she loses, she's a little grumpy about it, but it doesn't make her mad; it makes her want a re-match.
When it comes to things like sports, she knows she's going to get her behind kicked. She expects to be picked last for team sports at school and hopes for early elimination in games like dodge ball. "Just hit me and get it over with," she thinks, "so I can sit on the bench and read." If she can avoid those losing moments, she will. Somewhere in her collection of stuff, there is a 4th place ribbon for softball. There were 4 teams that summer. It's white. If asked, she could never explain why she kept it.
Losing loved ones is hardest for her, and being able to see ghosts doesn't make it any easier for her.
#WriteAwayJune Day 27 - What is your character's favorite book?
It should probably come as no surprise that Emma is a fan of occult and supernatural books. She talks to ghosts, after all. Since high school she's been a big fan of Stephen King and more recently she's discovered "The Talisman" by Stephen King and Peter Straub. It has captured her imagination, and she keeps re-reading it. She'd gotten it at the library first, then bought her own copy in paperback. That's been read so many times it is falling apart, so she's trying to find a hardcover copy. Emma spends a great deal of time at the library and reads a ton of books, but she keeps coming back to this one.
#WriteAwayJune Day 28 - Your character is granted 3 wishes. What are they?
If Emma had been given 3 wishes as a child, her first wish might have been that her gift would disappear. She's older now, and would never make that wish anymore.
Emma would wish for good health and relationships for her family and friends, better insight into the needs of her ancestors and sufficient resources to research the things she needs to know.
#WriteAwayJune Day 29 - How does your character deal with tragedy?
Emma's biggest tragedy to date is the death of her grandmother, and with that she's dealing well. She has certainly cried a lot, but since dealing with the dead is what she's done all her life, she knows death isn't really the end.
Up to now, she's been pretty lucky. Emma is tough, but if something bad were to happen to Jacob or the twins, it would probably immobilize her for some time.
#WriteAwayJune Day 30 - Create a graphic quote for your character.
Trying to beat midnight, so it's still June. Don't think I made it!
Good night!
